Letting go of my ex was one of the biggest challenges I faced the initial weeks after being dumped. It’s been about 2 years now and occasionally, he still comes to mind. Just yesterday I remembered that it was his birthday today and I was toying with the idea of calling him. Then I forced myself to remember all the breakup pain I had to go through, and with great difficulty steered myself out of calling him.

Being dumped, you are at the receiving end. Often you don’t want to end the relationship. You want every ounce of the relationship to work, and letting go is far from the mind. I was thinking all along what can I do to change? What can I do to make him stay. Looking back at it now, it all seems pathetic and desperate.

You can’t control the persons thoughts or feelings

Sometimes, you feel they are unjustly ending the relationship or maybe you don’t see any logic in their choice. The truth of the matter is they possess the freewill to do with their life, as they wish. As much as you may want to, you can’t control another person’s thoughts or feelings.
It is sometimes enormously painful to accept this fact, especially if you feel you have given so much of yourself to this other person.

After being dumped, Let go – let them walk away

When they choose to walk away from you, you may feel a very strong craving to stop the progress of their actions. When feeling that you deserve something from this person, it can cause you to behave in very improper way. This behavior is detrimental to your emotional well being.

Letting go doesn’t always seem like the right thing to do at the time. But sometimes, you have to let the other person find their own path; even if it means you have to imagine a life without you, in it.
It just means that their part in your life story is over. Deep down I think you will know that is.

So don’t try to talk him or her into staying with you or convince them to love you etc If they can’t treat you right, love you back and see your worth, surely you deserve better.
Trying to hang on to someone who doesn’t want to be with you is only going to prolong your breakup pain.

After being dumped, letting go doesn’t happen overnight

Letting go your past the your ex, isn’t something you do once and it disappears! Letting go is a journey with steps forward and steps backward; You will have your share of good days and bad days.

I have been through many gut twisting, heart wrenching breakups that really pinned me down to the ground and ripped me into pieces. So believe, me when I say letting go is a process that takes time.

Letting go and moving on is difficult; I’ve shared my experience previously. Check it out if you’ve missed those posts.

Being dumped means different things to different people. For some it is a relief and for others being dumped is the worst feeling ever!. I understand how eager you might be to get back with your ex. You might be willing to do just about anything, to get your ex back.

During my teenage years, after being dumped I thought, if I apologized for something I did, my partner will want to get back together. Sometimes, I apologized even if it wasn’t my fault. Sometimes, it worked! We got back together, but then eventually the relationship ended. I knew I should have “let go, the first time I got dumped!

As I got older (and wiser in late twenties!), I realized that I don’t have to be sorry or responsible for EVERYTHING, that led to a break up. Often, you tend to think you were dumped because of something YOU did. Keep in mind that this is not always the case. If you screwed up then it’s very likely that you would know what you did! You would most probably try to sort things between the two of you. But if out of the blue, your partner decides to dump you, then it could well be that there’s something else your partner is looking for.

However badly you might want to get back with your ex, if there’s

one thing you should never apologize for its telling the truth and being YOU.

Sometimes you might want to say certain things that are a bit uncomfortable for your partner hear. Remember, the truth will always remain true, and you are not accountable to apologize for saying such things.

If at all you feel the need to apologize, apologize for the pain; for saying these things might have caused. However, the actual act and reason should not be one of remorse. It’s no longer in your control once the truth is out how the other person will handle hearing that information.

Accept relationship is over after a breakup

Some relationships are casual or convenient, and when they end, it isn’t too hard to shrug them off and move on. They don’t linger in the psyche and they don’t have much effect on the future. And then there’s true love gone wrong… it’s like a horrible car crash. Not just a fender bender but also a real incident that leaves everybody shaken up. After the accident you’re not sure what happened or what to do next.

Getting over being dumped can be extremely difficult… emotionally, mentally, and even physically at times. If your ex ended your relationship before you wanted it to be over, it’s even more so. As much as you hate to hear this, it was your partner’s decision to end the relationship. Whether you saw it coming or you were totally blindsided by the break up, you won’t be able to move forward until you put aside any denial.

So, take it from someone who went through the process of being dumped, sitting around feeling sorry for yourself day after day isn’t going to help. One of the most important things you’ll need to do is admit to yourself that the relationship is over (however you may be feeling!). Getting over your ex is virtually impossible if you’re fantasizing about getting back together.

I’m highlighting this again,

The road to recovery start with accepting your break up.

Until you do this, you really can’t do anything else.

If you hang onto the relationship for a little too long, and this can cause you to do stupid and desperate things, which you might regret later.

The ugly truth of being dumped is no one wants to get dumped; It’s not in our nature to know how to accept it! Sadly, I can’t make you not feel hurt for the one you have lost. But eventually, we deal with it all, we have to. It makes us who we are today.
